Lent Term ‘25 Recap

Hi,

Firstly, we’d like to say a massive thank you to all of you for your incredible support as we embark on this exciting journey as a new society, for which your engagement and energy has made a true impact.

As the inaugural term for the Cambridge University Punjabi Society, Lent Term was filled with a variety of exciting events for our members. In this bulletin, we’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on the highlights of the term and look ahead to the Easter Term.

📝LENT TERM RECAP 📝

1. Meet and Greet

We kicked off the term with a fun evening of games and socializing, providing a great opportunity for members to get to know each other and connect.

2. Punjabi Lessons

We held our very first beginner-friendly Punjabi speaking class with the aim of helping students feel more comfortable speaking Punjabi with family and friends! The session was a huge success (with a chaa and gol gappe break) with all attendees keen to join further lessons, which we hope to offer again soon!

As requested by many, a link to Ashvin’s presentation from the class can be found below:

3. Echoes of Punjab: AS Kullar and Chaa and Chat

A rapidly rising music producer and University of Cambridge alumnus, AS Kullar brought his musical journey back to Cambridge with an illuminating talk on the history of Dharmik music and Punjabi musical influences in his own work. This insightful event was followed by a chaa and chaat social.

4. Bhangra Class

We brought Bhangra to Cambridge with two amazing alumni, Ramnik Uppal and Simmi Sangha, leading a fantastic beginner’s class. We hope this was the first of many to come!

5. Sip and Paint

We hosted our Sip and Paint Challenge, where members showcased their artistic abilities (or lack thereof) in a fun evening with our Punjabi-themed drinks.

6. The Cambridge Union x CU Punjabi Society: Steel Banglez

We proudly welcomed Steel Banglez to the Cambridge Union. A Grammy-nominated, award-winning producer, he shared his experiences of working with some of the biggest stars in the Punjabi, UK and US music industries, including Sidhu Moosewala, Burna Boy, Justin Bieber, and Dave.

7. Girls’ Dholki and Mehndi Night

Our Dholki and Mehndi Night, in collaboration with Brown Girl Link Up and Cambridge University India Society, was an unforgettable event that brought together the university’s South Asian female community for an evening filled with delicious food, dancing, and mehndi.

8. NLS Houseparty in collaboration with Red Bull

During our final event of the term, members enjoyed an energetic night (thanks to our sponsor Red Bull) filled with dancing, socialising, and great vibes. It was the perfect way to wrap up the term and gave a taste of the exciting events we have planned for Easter Term, where members can look forward to even more high-energy celebrations to mark the end of exams.
